I have the nonour to enclose a copy of an article which appeared in the Man hwok Yat Po of Canton on December 20th stating that Sir Robert Ho Tung, the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China and the British American Tobacco Company Limited had made, or had tried

to make, a loan of £5,00,000 to Northern Chinese

Militarists.

I am requ sted by the Governor of Hong Kong to inform you that enquiries navin been made of the person and institutions named they have all denied that there is any truth in the report. Copies of disclaimers from Sir Robert Ho Tung, the Chartered Bank and the British American Tobacco Company Limited are enclosed for your perusal.

I shall be glad therefore if you will kindly have a contradiction of the article published in the

Press.
